The Christian Vachon Foundation
The Christian Vachon Foundation helps only children who attend a foundation partner school. There are two ways to get help from the Christian Vachon Foundation, either by being selected for the entire following school year, or by getting help for an urgent one-time request. Each year in April, the school team sends families the link to the online form. This form must be completed and sent before the recruitment campaign deadline. The selection takes place in June. A volunteer from the Foundation communicates directly by telephone in June and July with the families selected to inform them of the type of assistance that will be provided to the child as well as the procedure to follow.
Overall Health
Children and youth should practice healthy sleep hygiene (habits and practices that are conducive to sleeping well), limit sedentary behaviours (especially screen time), and participate in a range of physical activities in a variety of environments (e.g., home/school/community; indoors/outdoors; land/water; summer/winter) and contexts (e.g., play, recreation, sport, active transportation, hobbies, and chores).
Healthy Eating
Children need a balanced diet with food from all three food groups—vegetables and fruit, whole grain products, and protein foods. Children need 3 meals a day and 1 to 3 snacks (morning, afternoon, and possibly before bed). Healthy snacks are just as important as the food you serve at meals. The best foods are whole, fresh, and unprocessed—fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, dairy, and meats; and home-cooked meals.
Sleeping Habits
Good sleep is part of a healthy lifestyle. To be as healthy as possible, children need adequate nighttime sleep. The Public Health Agency of Canada recommends 9-11 hours of sleep per night for children aged 5 -13. Does your child have healthy sleeping habits?
Screen Time
Children are exposed to more screens than ever before, including television, computers, gaming consoles, smartphones and tablets. While these tools may offer benefits for learning and exploration, too much screen time can lead to poor social skills and poor social attachments to parents and peers. Personal Hygiene
